ALBAWABA- Saudi Arabia will host an informal summit on Friday, bringing together the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Jordan, and Egypt for high-level discussions in Riyadh.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will lead the meeting, described as a "brotherly gathering" that has been held regularly over the years.
The talks come ahead of an emergency Arab summit in Egypt on March 4, where leaders will address plans to rebuild Gaza without displacing its Palestinian population.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi recently confirmed that his country is developing a "comprehensive" reconstruction strategy for the war-ravaged territory.
The summit follows global backlash against a controversial proposal by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who suggested displacing Gaza’s Palestinian inhabitants and transforming the territory into what he called “the Riviera of the Middle East.” The plan has been widely condemned across the Arab world as an attempt at ethnic cleansing.
The upcoming meetings take place in the wake of a ceasefire in Gaza, which began on January 19, halting months of Israeli military operations that have killed at least 48,300 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
The devastation has left the region in crisis, with Arab leaders expected to coordinate efforts on humanitarian relief and long-term reconstruction.
Saudi Arabia’s gathering is likely to shape the agenda for the extraordinary Arab League summit in Egypt, where key decisions on Gaza’s future and broader Arab unity will be discussed.
