Saudi Arabia said Sunday it had no evidence Osama bin Laden died, adding doubt to a report attributed to the Saudi intelligence service that he died last month. Information that has been reported otherwise is purely speculative and cannot be independently verified, the Saudi Embassy in Washington declared.
On Saturday, the French newspaper L'Est Republicain published what it said was a copy of the report, dated Sept. 21, and said it had been passed to French President Jacques Chirac the same day.
A Saudi intelligence source told United Press International Bin Laden, while not dead, was very ill. Time magazine Sunday cited a Saudi source who said bin Laden had a water-borne illness that could be terminal.
