The Bahraini decision to allow the import of satellite dishes has led to a strong reaction from the local market where shop owners are preparing themselves for tough competition in the coming weeks, Bahrain Tribune reported Thursday.
Ali Al Jamri, who works in an establishment selling and installing satellite dishes, was quoted by the paper as saying that the satellite shops have announced a state of emergency following the announcement asking them to try and sell their merchandise as soon as possible.
“The shop owners bought their merchandise from local agents at high prices. A Humax digital receiver costs BD165 here while in Dubai it’s only BD80,” said Al Jamri. “Our profit from the receivers is very limited – we buy them for BD150 and sell them for BD165. The real profit comes from the installation fee, which is BD30.”
According to the paper, it is expected that the rooftops in Bahrain will witness a phenomenon in the coming days based on this new development. Satellite dishes will quickly spread throughout the country and crown the houses and buildings – Albawaba.com
