Iraqi President, Saddam Hussein, vowed Monday to fight in case of a U.S. attack.

While meeting former Algerian President Ahmad Ben Bella and his wife in Baghdad, Saddam said “No one in the leadership and the people want the aggression to take place, because it will certainly have negative repercussions. But if God ordains that we fight, we will fight.” The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz, according to the Iraqi television.

Meanwhile, Iraq is fully prepared for Tuesday's presidential referendum. The 65-year-old president garnered 99.96 percent of the vote in the country's first referendum in 1995. The Iraqi people will be asked to vote yes or no to Saddam. Results are expected from the more than 1,000 polling centers from 15 provinces during the night.

Voting booths do not open until 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, and are due to close 12 hours later. (Albawaba.com)
