The recent bombing raids, carried out by U.S and British warplanes, are part of a wider campaign to instigate civil war in Southern Iraq, and so set in motion a series of events which will result in the downfall of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, sources in London revealed to Albawaba.

With a new Republican president at the helm in washington, D.C., indications of where the United States’ Iraq policy is leading have been evident since early February. At the beginning of the month, White House officials held talks with the National Iraqi Congress, which is a group dedicated to the overthrow of the current Baghdad regime. During the meeting, it was decided that the group would receive $29 million in assistance to finance its operation. A week earlier, the group received a further $4 million, in return for a promise that it dispatch its agents into Iraq.

But intelligence experts tell Albawaba that the Americans are wasting their money. To a large degree, the organized Iraqi opposition is an illusion, with the bulk of its activity currently confined to distributing unsubstantiated news items, often referring to Saddam’s allegedly ill health.

The opinion of the various intelligence experts was unanimous. They believe that, as things are at present, the Iraqi regime is not threatened by opposition groups located outside of the country, such as the National Iraqi Congress. The experts added that the bombing attacks at the end of last week are unlikely to achieve their objective, and instead will enhance Saddam’s folk-hero status among Arabs worldwide. – (Albawaba.com)
