Iran can not use a nuclear energy plant, built with Russian assistance in southern Bushehr, to produce enriched uranium, Itar-Tass on Monday cited a Russian expert as saying in Moscow.
The agency quoted Anton Khlopkov from the Russian Center of Political Studies as saying that enriched uranium was impossible to be produced in a light water reactor like the one in the Bushehr energy plant.
“There is a sole case in history when a nuclear explosive device made of plutonium enriched in an energy reactor was tested in the US in 1962," he said, adding "It also should not be forgotten that the US had to carry out 62 unsuccessful tests to blast this nuclear explosive device."
Furthermore, the expert emphasized that “as soon as nuclear fuel is delivered from Russia to Iran, it will immediately come under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency”, the news agency said. (Albawaba.com)
