The Russian envoy on the Middle East Andre Vidofin arrived in Cairo Wednesday evening from Amman for a two-day visit to Egypt within the framework of a regional tour.
Cairo witnessed intensive diplomatic activities within the last couple of days to contain the deteriorating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories in addition to dealing with the Iraqi crisis.
The Russian envoy's visit followed a visit by British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw who met with President Hosni Mubarak, Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher and Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa, according to KUNA news agency.
Meanwhile, the European Union External Relations Chief Javier Solana met on Wednesday with Mubarak, Maher and Moussa. Solana said that the Security Council member-States have a great responsibility towards handling the Iraqi issue, hoping that they would reach a final decision as soon as possible. (Albawaba.com)
