ALBAWABA - Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia will reserve its right to target British military facilities in both Ukraine and abroad if Kyiv decides to strike Russian territory with weapons provided by the UK.
This announcement came after the UK's Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, David Cameron, told Reuters last week that Ukraine has the "right" to use British-supplied weapons to strike Russia inside its own territory.
"Russian side views Cameron's words as evidence of a serious escalation and confirmation of London's growing involvement in military operations on the side of Kyiv," according to the Russian foreign affairs ministry.
Zakharova stated in an interview with the Russian state news agency TASS that "If such a scenario is implemented, then our country, the Russian Federation, reserves the right to respond accordingly. That is to use as a target British facilities located both on the territory of Ukraine and abroad -- military facilities, weapons, and so on,".
Zakharova criticized British Foreign Secretary David Cameron's recent remarks that London believed it appropriate for Kyiv to employ British weapons in strikes on Russian territory as "absolutely insane" and "illogical".
On Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned British Ambassador Nigel Casey, stating that it had sent him a strong complaint regarding Cameron's remarks about Ukraine's right to strike Russian Federation territory using British weapons.
Relations with the United Kingdom and Russia have deteriorated since Moscow began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, causing London to impose sanctions on Moscow.
Earlier on Monday, Russia said that it has begun preparations for nuclear weapons drills, accusing Western authorities of making "provocative statements and threats" by increasing support for Ukraine.
