Russia and Iraq on Wednesday signed an emergency prevention agreement that includes the exchange of experts and specialist training, the Russian Novosti news agency reported.
Russian Emergencies Minister Sergei Shoigu arrived in Baghdad on Tuesday to meet Iraqi officials.
On Wednesday, he signed the emergency pact with Iraqi Interior Minister Mahmoud Al Ahmed and announced the opening in July of a representative office there, said the agency.
The new emergency deal will include help in case of emergencies as well as the exchange of expertise, Novosti reported.
Shiogu also met Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz Wednesday.
They discussed bilateral ties and Iraq’s decision to halt oil exports earlier this week in protest of a UN decision to extend the oil-for-food program by one month.
