ALBAWABA - According to the Anadolu Agency, at least 40 persons were killed on Friday as a result of an artillery bombardment by Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Omdurman region of the capital Khartoum.
According to a statement from the local Karari Resistance Committee, the RSF bombarded specific residential neighborhoods in Omdurman with strong shelling.
According to the statement, there have been 40 verified deaths and over 50 injuries, implying that the number of fatalities and injuries may rise.
On June 5, the Medani Resistance Committees stated that around 100 people had been slain in RSF raids in the village of Wed en-Nora in central Gezira.
The Sudan Sovereignty Council accused the RSF of carrying out a massacre by killing at least 104 people in the area, while the RSF claimed to have assaulted three camps containing the army, intelligence, and volunteer troops.
Meanwhile, Clementine Nkweta-Salami, the UN assistant secretary-general and deputy special representative for Sudan, expressed horror at the fatalities in the hamlet of Wed en-Nora in Gezira state.
Salami stated that, while the UN does not have all of the details of the events on June 5th, there are credible reports of heavy weapon use in civilian areas, adding: "We call for a comprehensive investigation into what happened in Wed en-Nora, and those responsible for these crimes to be held accountable. The RSF acknowledged that its men were involved in ground operations in the region".
The RSF has been active in the western and southern states of Sudan since the conflict started in mid-April 2023 and spread to most of the country's states. The army has remained in control in the country's northern and eastern regions.
The Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fought a power struggle that resulted in a conflict that severely damaged society, the economy, the health care system, and infrastructure.
