Rolls-Royce plc, the world-leading provider of power systems and services, is teaming up with Radio 2 to find the Rugby Anthem for the 2006 Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens Tournament next week.
Sixteen songs will go head-to-head in a competition on Radio 2 this week, leading up to the Sevens, in which Rolls-Royce is a leading and founding sponsor.
“The eight songs with the most SMS votes from listeners will go through to the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens Rocking with Rolls-Royce competition on the main pitch to find the ultimate Dubai Rugby Sevens Anthem,” explains John Phillips, General Manager, Rolls-Royce.”
Every morning and afternoon, Radio presenters will give listeners two tunes from a list of popular rugby songs, to choose between.
“Listeners text in with their preference and then the winning song from each ‘knock-out’ goes through to be used in the Rocking With Rolls-Royce on-site competition at the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens on Finals Day,” said Radio 2 Geoff Price, who will be broadcasting live from the ground on 2 December. “Each knockout will have a winner and one listener who texted the winning song will be chosen at random to receive a Rolls-Royce goodie bag including a much sought after rugby shirt, and pass to the tournament.”
The Rockin’ with Rolls-Royce competition made its debut at last year’s Sevens and proved a huge success with listeners and with spectators alike. Rolls-Royce and Radio 2 hope the popularity will increase this year.
As a founding sponsor of the Sevens, Rolls-Royce has helped the event to become one of the best-known spectacles on the global sporting calendar.
Rolls-Royce’s sponsorship of the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens tournament is a further demonstration its commitment to the United Arab Emirates through support for major sporting events as well as educational programmes.
Rolls-Royce has major customers in the region for all its global sectors – civil aerospace, defence aerospace, marine and energy – and is playing its part in providing power for today and in the future.
