ALBAWABA - A Republican senator angered Israel after calling for cutting the United States' aid to Israel as a way to pressure it to stop striking Lebanon.
US Republican Congressman Thomas Massie criticized Washington's continued financial support for Israel. He also downplayed reports of a heated exchange between Trump and Netanyahu, calling them "empty rhetoric."
In a post on X, Thomas Massie said: "It's all just talk. Just cut off foreign aid to Israel for a month and they'll stop bombing their neighbors. Instant peace, the Strait of Hormuz can be opened, and the price of gasoline will drop by two dollars a gallon."
He added: "Israel has been, and remains, the largest recipient of aid from American taxpayers."
U.S. President Donald Trump announced a new proposal to end the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, adding that the Lebanese group agreed to it. However, Israel didn't show any stance regarding the U.S. proposal.
Lebanon's embassy in Washington announced Monday that Hezbollah had agreed to a proposal by the United States to stop attacking Israel in exchange for Israel halting airstrikes on south Beirut.
