At least four people including three students were shot dead in a clash between police and protesting university students, several newspapers reported Saturday.
A radio report on the clash Friday outside the University of Lagos put the death toll at two, including one student.
Police have confirmed that one person was killed, identifying the person as a driver, not a student.
Trouble started late Thursday when an unidentified policeman shot dead a student at the university who allegedly was helping to clear traffic congestion around the campus entrance, the reports said.
Students staged a march out of the campus early Friday to protest the killings.
Police reportedly opened fire on the demonstrators and killed two students and a driver, leaving many other students wounded.
Lagos Deputy Police Commissioner Emmanuel Adebayo confirmed the driver's death.
The reports also said that the irate students set ablaze a police camp near a police station in Bariga in a northeastern district of the city.
The campus was calm Saturday morning when an AFP reporter visited.
Some of the students said they have given Lagos authorities a deadline by which to identify the policeman who fired the shot that killed the first student, as well as the release of their seized bus.
A report by local newspapers that the students abducted some policemen during the clashes could not be confirmed.
