U.S. forces refused to arrest former Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed al-Sahaf, who tried to turn himself in, the London-based Arabic daily Al-Sharq al-Awsat.
U.S. troops rejected his surrender attempt because he is not on the U.S. Central Command's list of the most wanted top 55 Iraqi officials, an unidentified Kurdish official told the newspaper.
Al-Sahaf feared for his safety in the Iraqi capital and sought protection by giving himself up, the report said. (Albawaba.com)
