Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak, retracted his invitation to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon for a first meeting between the two leaders, Israel Radio reported Saturday.

The radio quoted Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher as saying that conditions were not ripe for a meeting between the leaders. He added that the meeting depended, among others, on Israel's actions, and that until now Israel has only made declaration that do not lead to peace.

Mubarak has refused to meet with Sharon since he was elected as prime minister in 2001.

After the January 2003 elections, Mubarak decided to change his attitude. Right after the elections he phoned Sharon to congratulate him on his victory, and the two decided to meet after Sharon formed his coalition. (Albawaba.com)
