Jordan has sent messages to Israel voicing concern over the deteriorating situation in the region, an Israeli newspaper said on Wednesday, cited by the official Kuwaiti news agency, KUNA.
The Hebrew-language newspaper Yed'eot Ahranot said Wednesday that the Jordanian letters mentioned fears of harm to Jordan’s interests and its ruling system.
The report also said that Israeli Defense Minister Binyamin Ben Eliezer had sent an envoy to Jordan to deliver a "calming letter" to the kingdom's officials.
Ben Eliezer reportedly sent his advisor for Arab affairs, David Hakham, to deliver the letter to Jordanian Chief of Staff Mohammad Youssef Al Malkawi. The report said the letter was actually destined for Jordanian Prime Minister Ali Abu Al Ragheb.
According to the report, the Israeli letter included an explanation for the recent problems and an Israeli promise to exert maximum efforts to prevent further deterioration of the regional situation.
