Israel's military seized last week a sea-borne shipment of forty barrels of weaponry for Palestinian Authority autonomous areas in the Gaza Strip, reported The Jerusalem Post newspaper, quoting a report by Channel Two television broadcast Sunday.
According to the TV report, the shipment included anti-tank rockets, 50 rocket propelled grenades, rocket launchers, 1,000 rockets, cases of 60mm mortar rounds and other war materiel.
The paper quoted military sources as saying that the shipment was captured after being dumped overboard from a boat, apparently originating in Egypt.
The source added that the weaponry was intended for use by the PA in a possible conflict during Tuesday's premiership election.
Palestinians on Sunday called for a "day of rage" on Israel's election day, said press reports.
The Israeli army warned last Saturday of an upsurge of violence in the Palestinian territories after the elections.
Israel's Chief of Staff, Shaul Mofaz expected some escalation in the near future.
"There are now no diplomatic negotiations, so the Palestinians have no incentives to foil terrorist attacks," he was quoted as saying last Saturday -- Albawaba.com
