The Israeli government has decided to move large amounts of garbage from central Israel and dump it in the West Bank. The project was launched despite international treaties prohibiting an occupying state from making use of occupied lands unless it benefits the local population.
In addition, pollution experts claim such use of a dump site located in an old Palestinian quarry between "Kdumim" settlement and Nablus - will jeopardize Palestinian water resources.
The Tel Aviv-based Haaretz newspaper reported on Monday the dump operators intend to deposit some 10,000 tons of garbage from central Israel every month.
Israel's construction and operation of the new dump site is in violation of international laws as it involves transferring garbage to territory defined as occupied.
