The head of Israel’s intelligence service, the Mossad, Efraim Halevi is to leave his post and take up the position as the head of the Israeli National Security Council following an offer from Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
According to a report in the Yedioth Aharonot daily, Halevi is to replace Brigadier General (Res.) Uzi Dayan as NSC head.
As of now, it is not known who will replace Halevi as head of the intelligence agency.
Halevi has served in the Mossad since 1961 and has been head of the secret organization since 1998.
Halevi was noted for acting as Sharon's special envoy in ”sensitive cases” and for handling Israel's relations with nations it does not have official contacts with. It is assumed that Sharon will continue to use Halevi for “sensitive” diplomatic missions, the report said. (Albawaba.com)
