A foreign submarine infiltrated Israel's territorial waters last Wednesday, near the beaches of the northern coastal town of Nahariya, Army Radio reported Monday morning.
The submarine was discovered after penetrating three miles into Israeli waters, the report added. After being aware that it had been discovered, the submarine left the area.
The Israeli navy has launched an investigation into the matter, Haaretz added.
The Army Radio report said the incident reflected a "failure" on the part of the Israeli navy, "since the submarine succeeded in evading all notice in real time."
The submarine's mission was unknown, the radio said.
It should be mentioned that three days before the submarine incident a drone, operated by Hizbullah, entered Israel's airspace flying over Nahariya. (albawaba.com)
