A reformist Iranian journalist was sentenced by a Tehran court Tuesday to 19 months in jail for charges of “spreading lies to disturb the public, and insulting top officials,” reported the Iranian News Agency (IRNA).
Masoud Behnoud, 52, was arrested and held under temporary detention in August last year, but he was freed on bail in December.
According to the agency, he was working with several now-banned newspapers.
Since April last year, courts have arrested a number of journalists and closed down over 25 newspapers in the Islamic republic – Albawaba.com
