The number of overweight children in Britain has reached record levels, with the proportion classified as obese almost tripling in some age groups in 10 years, according to a study published today in the medical magazine ' the British Medical Journal, cited by Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The research, based on a study of 694 children, found that one in three girl aged 11 was overweight and more than one in eight was obese. Boys of the same age had similar problems, with 27 percent overweight and one in five obese.
Researchers from Leeds community, who analyzed children from 10 primary schools, blamed the problem on poor diet and a sedentary way of life. The rise of computer games, combined with the increasing reluctance of parents to let their children play outside, meant that fewer people were taking part in physical exercise, said the report – Albawaba.com
