A secret US policy review that labels parts of Asia and the Middle East, including Iran, as potential US nuclear battlegrounds shows Washington poses "a serious threat to the world", Iran's former president Ali-Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Sunday.
"It shows that the United States is a serious threat to the world," said Rafsanjani, who remains a very influential figure in Iran where he heads the Expediency Council, the Islamic republic's top arbitration body.
"The United States thinks that by maintaining nuclear threats against certain countries, they will back down," IRNA news agency quoted him as saying during discussions with police chiefs.
"But if we take into account the widespread presence of US forces and their allies in the world, you can see it their policy that is a threat."
Rafsanjani added that the United States has created an "atmosphere of terror that will affect the security of the world's countries by encouraging different groups, individuals and adventurers to fan the flames of insecurity."
According to a classified report leaked to US media last week, the Nuclear Policy Review sees such countries as China, North Korea, Iraq, Iran, Syria and Libya as potential targets for US nuclear strikes. (Albawaba.com)
