Rafah crossing reopened

Published June 23rd, 2006 - 07:01 GMT

After two days of closure causing a lot of hardship and misery to Palestinians traveling to and from the Gaza Strip, the Rafah crossing was re-opened Friday afternoon.

The closure was prompted by Israeli security warnings to the foreign observers working on the crossing which led the observers to leave the crossing, thus shutting it down.

The crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt is the only one to the outside world for Palestinians living in Gaza Strip and thus people were stranded on both sides of the border for two days. Palestinian officials met Friday morning with representatives of the foreign observers and explained to them the suffering of those stranded on both sides because of the closure.
