ALBAWABA - The Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip will be opened provisionally next Wednesday to prepare it for the passage of people in both directions, high-level official sources told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

A senior source explained that the crossing will officially open to passengers at the beginning of next week after finalizing some outstanding details regarding access procedures from the Palestinian side and the lists of those departing and returning.

The source denied reports that the crossing would open Monday evening, saying, "There are some logistical details that have not yet been finalized." The source explained that dozens of Palestinian Authority employees are currently in the Egyptian city of El Arish preparing to assume their duties.

Ali Shaath, the chief commissioner of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, announced last Thursday that the Rafah crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt would be opened next week.
