The participants of a seminar, held recently in Rabat, on the "Euro-Mediterranean partnership - 10 years after the Barcelona process," criticized the lack of "effective political dialogue" in the Euro-Mediterranean area.

Professor, Aziz Hasbi, asserted that a successful political dialogue is an essential precondition for a successful Euro-Mediterranean cooperation. Such a dialogue, he explained, would enable an efficient fight against drug-trafficking, criminality, terrorism and arms proliferation, and thus would contribute to the creation of a peaceful and stable environment.

On his part, Professor, Hassan Zaoual, conveyed that the issue of cultural exchanges did not receive enough attention within the framework of Barcelona accords, based on the mistaken belief that the free trade zone will be the “miracle solution” for all the problems that faced the Euro-Med region.

Caroline Sorgues of the European Commission Delegation to Morocco, who also attended the two days seminar, reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to the success of the Euro-Med partnership and promised that its financial assistance, and economic encouragement of political and social reforms, will continue.
