Key Qatari opposition figures said at the conclusion of their annual conference held recently that they have made contacts with “Qataris from different strata,” in a bid to reinforce efforts for reform and “save the country from isolation, squandering of public money and arbitrary measures.”
According to a statement faxed to Albawaba.com in Amman, the conference took place “somewhere outside the homeland.”
The statement said that the participants had been briefed by “Colonel Abu Abdullah,” on the activities of the opposition inside Qatar.
Abu Abdullah, who was identified in the statement as the person responsible for internal organization, claimed that “the majority of Qataris support the establishment of an organized opposition movement” that crusade for reforms and freedoms.
The political statement issued by the conference harshly criticized the government of Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani for “harming the reputation of the country, tripling the country’s debts compared to five years ago, and the conflict among royal family members” over public money and natural wealth.
The statement also criticized Qatar for having ties with Israel and demanded that Doha sever all relations with the Jewish state – Albawaba.com
