Qatar’s anti-drug squad has foiled an attempt to smuggle 50 kilos of hashish into the country, reported the official Qatari News Agency (QNA) on Friday.

“Authorities at the interior ministry have seized about 50 kilos of hashish in an operation,” the agency said.

The agency quoted director of the coast and border guard department, Brigadier Saad Jassem Al Kholeifi, as saying that the drug enforcement authorities had been informed of the operation beforehand. “So the smugglers had been put under close observation.”

He said: “They were caught red-handed while trying to illicitly get the harmful materials into the country.”

Qatar, he said, had a record of success in foiling drug trafficking operations.

“This success can be attributed to the close co-operation between the drug enforcement department, the coast and border guard department and the Al Shamal security department,” he said – Albawaba.com
