An Egyptian suicide bomber carried out Saturday's attack that killed a Briton and wounded over a dozen others at a theatre frequented by Westerners in Qatar, Al Jazeera television said on Sunday.
The Qatar-based channel quoted the Qatari Interior Ministry as identifying the man as Egyptian national Omar Ahmad Abdullah Ali, who also owned the car used in the attack.
A car bomb exploded at a theater near a British school in Doha late Saturday killing one person and wounding another 12, an official source at the interior ministry said. “The explosion which occurred this evening was caused by a car bomb. One person was killed and 12 people were slightly wounded, 10 of whom were discharged from hospital,” the ministry official told QNA.
The explosion, at around 9pm, took place at the “Doha Player” theater next to the Doha English-Speaking School. A large number of ambulances rushed to the scene of the explosion. The interior ministry official told QNA that authorities had launched an investigation.
The audience, which included 100 Westerners, was watching a performance of Twelfth Night at the 348-seat theatre complex. A British Embassy spokesman said the dead man was British, and added that two other British nationals were among the wounded.
