Qanat Al Qasba in Sharjah hosts dinner for local media

Qanat al Qasba and 'Sharjah Tatweer Forum’ hosted a dinner for members of the local media to share with them the attractions and activities taking place at Qanat Al Qasba during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Welcoming the media, Her Highness Bedour bint Sultan Al Qassimi said, “A lot of effort has gone into making Qanat Al Qasba a place which symbolises Sharjah’s rich culture and tradition. Residents of Sharjah and other emirates visiting Qanat Al Qasba can learn a lot about our ancient customs and traditions.  I thank the media for turning up in large numbers and extending their support in enhancing Sharjah’s position as a cultural center of the country.”

Speaking at the event, Tatweer President, Hussain Al Mahmoudi, said, “We are proud to be part of this event. Sharjah Tatweer Forum (Tatweer) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) which was formed by a decree from H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Ruler of Sharjah, with objectives of creating a collaborative forum focusing on the development of young local talent seeking excellence in the private and public sectors, through knowledge and networking led events. The forum focuses on fostering tri partnerships between private and public sector and sharing of best practices.”

Addressing the media at the dinner, Daniel During, Managing Director of Qanat Al Qasba said, “We are pleased to have our friends from the media at Qanat Al Qasba during the Holy month of Ramadan. Sharjah is known for its rich cultural heritage and diversity, and Qanat Al Qasba is committed to portray this to the present generation, leveraging the reach of the media. In an effort to further promote the good spirit of Ramadan, we have hosted several activities that target children and their families, and these activities have generated tremendous interest among residents of Sharjah and neighbouring emirates.”

The dinner was attended by media persons from all over the UAE, as well as members from both Qanat Al Qasba and Sharjah Tatweer Forum, who were briefed on Qanat Al Qasba’s development and activities. The media persons were also taken on a tour of Qanat Al Qasba where they were shown attractions such as the ‘Eye of the Emirates’, which is the highest observatory wheel in the region. Costing a total of AED 25 million, the wheel is 60 meters high and offers extraordinary views of both Sharjah and Dubai. A total of 336 people can ride the wheel at one time, as it holds 42 fully air-conditioned gondolas that have a capacity of 8 people each.

The media were also shown a Winter Street Market with over 100 stalls on each side of the Qanat to create a fascinating blend of old and new. Other unique features include the 400-seat auditorium, Masrah Al Qasba, which is located in the centre of the North Quarter and will host theatrical and cinematic performances in English and Arabic.
