Egyptian prosecutors have extended for 15 more days the imprisonment of 64 people suspected of belonging to the banned Muslim Brotherhood movement, pending more investigation into the group's political activities.
The case against the detainees goes back to last July, when they were rounded up on charges of being members of a banned political group whose activities were deemed illegal since 1954, reported the official Kuwaiti news agency (KUNA).
The accused deny their involvement with the defunct movement, and their lawyer has asked the court for their release on bail in view of the fact that many of he detainees are professionals and people with “above-board reputations who would not be feared to skip town.”
Security authorities said they had “ample” proof, of the audio-visual kind, that the accused aimed at reviving the political activities of the old brotherhood group.
The authorities have confiscated books, tapes, computers, and other items, which will be used by the prosecution as evidentiary proof of the group's illegal activities.
It is expected that the case would turned over to a military court, said the agency -- Albawaba.com
