Belgium's consulate in Jerusalem was vandalized Wednesday night to protest an investigation by an international court in Brussels of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's alleged role in the 1982 Sabra and Shatilla massacre, reported Radio Israel.

The report said that two windows were broken, adding that pamphlets were left behind in the area protesting against Sharon’s possible trial.

Sharon, who started a European tour on Thursday, will meet Belgian Foreign Minister Louis Michel in Berlin, said reports.

Sharon had reportedly refused to visit Belgium during his maiden visit to Europe.

The premier's original itinerary included Berlin, Brussels and Paris, but the middle leg of his trip was canceled.

His office put it down to scheduling issues, but Israeli diplomatic sources said it was because of the opening of legal proceedings in Belgium against Sharon.

A Brussels magistrate is currently considering whether Sharon can stand trial in Belgium.

The request has been made by more than 20 survivors of the slayings in the Palestinian refugee camps – Albawaba.com
