Chechen separatist rebels attacked the mayor's headquarters in the war-shattered capital Grozny Sunday, pro-Moscow Chechen officials said cited by Interfax news agency.
At least one guerrilla fighter died in the failed assault, his body found at the scene, the mayor's office said. Four policemen guarding the building were wounded, two requiring hospitalization.
Bislan Gantamirov, whose pro-Moscow militia fought alongside Russian troops when they captured the city early this year, was named by Moscow as mayor of Grozny in October.
