About twenty prisoners successfully launched a prison escape in the north east of Tunisia on Sunday, according to Tunisian opposition sources. The escape took place on the night between Saturday and Sunday in the Kef region. Official sources in Tunisia report that the escapees were rearrested.
Tunisian authorities say that the escapees were experienced traffickers and smugglers and that their escape is being investigated. The escape is a major embarrassment for the Tunisian prison authorities because of the scale of the breakout.
