Iranian President, Mohammad Khatami, Wednesday stressed the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear activities, saying the program is completely transparent.

Talking to reporters after a cabinet session, Khatami reiterated Tehran's readiness for cooperation with the world and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). "We do not act against the law. We try to build confidence and prove that Iran's (nuclear) activities would not lead to nuclear weapons since we are certain (about our plans)," he said, according to IRNA.

He noted that Iran's right for getting access to peaceful nuclear technology should be recognized officially, saying "I do not know the Europeans' offer yet but, as I have repeatedly said, we are ready for talks and understanding. "No one should deprive Iran of access to peaceful nuclear technology under the supervision of the IAEA."

"We will offer the agency any guarantee that Iran will never take steps towards nuclear weapons," the Iranian leader stated.

Reacting to the great pressure on Iran and hinting to Israel's nuclear capabilities, Khatami asked "Why is Iran in the spotlight while it has not yet fully acquired the nuclear technology but those countries which possess atomic bomb and arsenal cause no concern?" (albawaba.com)
