ALBAWABA - The Revolutionary Guards Command in East Azerbaijan has determined the position of the chopper, according to Iranian state media, which is a fresh development after the helicopter mishap involving President Ibrahim Raisi and his team.

According to the report, which was carried by Iran's official news agency IRNA, a signal was found at the crash scene from a member of the crew's cell phone. Military troops have since been sent to the region to do more research.

Earlier today, President Raisi had taken a helicopter to take part in the opening ceremony of a dam that is located on the border between Iran and Azerbaijan.

Iranian state media said that the disaster happened on the helicopter's return trip and was caused by a rough landing. Notably, Ayatollah Ali Hashim, the leader of Tabriz Friday prayers, Governor Malik Rahmeti of East Azerbaijan, and Foreign Minister Hussein Emir Abdullahiyan were also on board the aircraft when the tragedy occurred.

Authorities have said that difficult weather circumstances are impeding the success of the continuing operations, even with search and rescue attempts.
