ALBAWABA - On Wednesday, Polish officials denounced an arson attack on a synagogue in Warsaw, which was caused by a Molotov cocktail.

According to Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and the country's head rabbi, "someone tried to set fire to the Nozyk synagogue with a Molotov cocktail". "Thank God no one was hurt," the minister added in a post on X.

In response to the attack, Polish President Andrzej Duda wrote on X: "I condemn this shameful attack on the Nozyk synagogue in Warsaw. "Anti-Semitism has no place in Poland. There is no place for hate in Poland,".

Michael Schudrich, Poland's head rabbi, could not be reached immediately. Warsaw police said detectives were on the site. Sikorski's letter raised questions about who would have carried out the attack on Poland's 20th anniversary of EU membership.

An AFP correspondent on the scene noticed a black smear across a glass that appeared to be caused by fire, although the synagogue sustained no severe damage.

French authorities launched an investigation after several dozen Jewish symbols were daubed on buildings in Paris in October, as emotions heightened over Israel's latest war on Gaza.

France suspects Russian security services were responsible for the vandalism, according to an official French source, although Russia has denied any involvement.
