Two executives who work for Yasser Arafat's Palestinian Authority were injured along with four other people when their car collided with a truck in eastern Egypt, police said.
Solafa Hassan Hegawi, director of a planning office in Gaza City, and Osama Nofal, head of an economics department which is also under Arafat's authority, were hurt in Sunday's accident on Ismailiya-Port Said highway, they said.
The accident occurred when the car carrying the two officials and four other people hit the truck as it was reversing on the highway, the police said.
The travelers were heading for Cairo from the Rafah terminal, the crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, they added.
The six were being treated at University Hospital in Ismailiya for broken ribs, legs and shoulders as well as cuts, according to a medical source at the hospital.
The police said the two Palestinian executives were in Egypt for private reasons unrelated to Arafat's trip to Cairo on Sunday.
Arafat held talks there with Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres, but there was no sign of a breakthrough in efforts to make a June 13 ceasefire take hold -- ISMAILIYA, Egypt (AFP)
