ALBAWABA - A plane departing from Mexico crashes on a highway in Laredo, Texas, resulting in a death and five injuries.
The plane, which is a Cessna business jet, left San José del Cabo in Mexico and was flying to Austin, Texas, when it diverted toward Laredo, according to FlightRadar24.
Authorities arrived at the scene after receiving a call from a local airport tower after the plane contacted them about mechanical issues, Laredo Police Officer Jose Baeza told reporters.
The flight radar data shows the plane doing a steady, controlled descent into Laredo airport until the signal cut out at around 180 meters from the ground, losing contact with air traffic controllers before crashing on a nearby highway, hitting a vehicle as it went down.
The crash victims have been transported to a local hospital along with five officers who sustained injuries during the rescue, it's unknown if anyone in the vehicle was injured as the police have yet to reveal the identities of those on board or of those injured.
“Regrettably and tragically there is one deceased involved in this crash,” Baeza told reporters from the scene, without giving details as the victim’s family is being notified.
Federal agencies have been notified of the crash and are on the scene as events are still developing.
