ALBAWABA - Peru's Congress agreed on Tuesday to impeach interim president Jose Jeri, over accusations of hiring women in his government in an unfair way.

Jeri, 39, was not only accused of the irregular hiring of several women, but he was also suspected of graft involving a Chinese businessman, AFP reported Tuesday.

It is worth noting that the interim president took office last October, replacing Dina Boluarte, who was also impeached following demonstrations against Peru's corruption and a wave of violence linked to organized crime.

The Asian country's prosecutors launched a probe last week into "whether the head of state exercised undue influence" in government appointments. However, Jeri rejected accusations.

AFP wrote that the investigative TV program Cuarto Poder found out that five women were improperly hired in the president's office and the environment ministry after meeting with the interim president. However, prosecutors revealed that nine women were handed over jobs in the government by Jeri.
