A Pennsylvania man is facing murder charges after he allegedly beheaded his father and posted a video of the gruesome act on YouTube, where he ranted about President Biden and other political issues.
Justin Mohn, 32, was arrested on Wednesday at a National Guard base in Harrisburg, about 100 miles away from his home in Levittown, where police found the body of his father, Michael Mohn, 68.
According to the police complaint, Mohn uploaded a video titled “Mohn’s Militia - Call To Arms For American Patriots” on YouTube on Tuesday, in which he showed his father’s severed head in a plastic bag and later in a cooking pot. He also claimed that his father was a federal employee for 20 years and called him a traitor. He then urged viewers to join his militia and kill all federal officials, while expressing his hatred for Biden, the Black Lives Matter movement, the LGBTQ community and antifa activists.
The video, which was more than 14 minutes long, was removed by YouTube hours after it was posted, for violating its policies on graphic violence and violent extremism. However, it was seen by some of Mohn’s relatives, who alerted the police. Mohn’s mother also reported that her son and her husband were missing, along with her white Toyota Corolla.
Police tracked down Mohn’s car to the National Guard base, where he was taken into custody without incident. He was arraigned at 4 a.m. on charges of first-degree murder, possession of an instrument of crime and abuse of a corpse, and was denied bail.
Mohn has a history of filing lawsuits against federal agencies, claiming that they negligently caused him to take out student loans while he attended Pennsylvania State University. He also accused the judge who dismissed his claims of having a personal bias and a conflicting financial interest. The judge rejected his allegations as “entirely speculative and without factual basis” and described him as "a disappointed college graduate".
Mohn’s motive for killing his father remains unclear, and police are still investigating the case. It is also unknown whether Mohn has retained an attorney or if he will undergo a mental health evaluation.
