The Palestinian Authority State Security Court on Thursday sentenced Nablus resident Ahmed Abu Eisheh to death for collaborating with the Shin Bet security service, said reports.
The court said the information supplied by Eished led to the assassination of senior Hamas activist Salah Darawaze last week.
According to Palestinian law, the punishment for treason is death.
The hunt after collaborators in the Palestinian Authority continued Thursday.
According to sources in the PA, these collaborators assist Israel in carrying out the Jewish state's "liquidation" policy -- a euphemism for several dozen assassinations.
In Nablus, Palestinian security sources have arrested a number of individuals suspected of assisting Israel in the Tuesday strike in Nablus on a Hamas office which killed eight, including two senior movement members, as well as two passing children.
Since Tuesday, two collaborators have been murdered in the Occupied Territories, and one has been seriously wounded.
On Thursday the court heard another case - that of a Palestinian who was arrested by the general intelligence service and accused of collaborating with Israel, AFP and Israeli papers said.
Meanwhile, left-wing Knesset Member Mossi Raz called on Arafat to ensure the death sentences were not carried out, said Haaretz.
Raz said the death sentence was "barbaric" in any country, but that the swift nature of the trial in Nablus made it even "more barbaric." – Albawaba.com
