Tens of thousands of Palestinians marched in a Gaza Strip soccer stadium Friday in a massive show of support for the ruling Hamas party and its government. Thousands of followers were bused into Gaza City from all parts of the coastal area. Chanting "God be with you, Hamas," the crowd waited for Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh to address them.
Haniyeh fainted briefly in the heat during his speech, but he resumed it after several minutes.
Haniyeh, 46, slurred some words, then stopped speaking in midsentence and fell on aides surrounding him. "Our bodies can get tired, but our soul will not, and we will not stop our steadfastness," he said after the incident.
