The Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) on Monday elected its new Speaker to succeed the Palestinian Prime Minister-designate Ahmad Qurei (Abu Ala). The new speaker is former Labor minister Rafiq al-Natche. The speaker will become acting president of the Palestine National Authority (PNA) if something was to happen to President Arafat, according to the Palestinian Basic Law.
