A Palestinian was killed while four others were wounded by Israeli gunfire during an Israeli incursion into the city of Beit Hanoun, north of the Gaza Strip, medical sources and witnesses reported Wednesday afternoon.
Kamal O'dwan Hospital sources told WAFA that Atya al-Ajramy, 20, was killed after being shot in the neck. Witnesses said that Israeli tanks, deployed at the entrance of Beit Hanoun, opened fire at a group of pedestrians, killing al-Ajramy and injuring several others.
In the on-going attack on the city, Israeli bulldozers razed vast areas of agricultural lands. They also destroyed the infrastructure of the city. The bulldozers destroyed the telecommunication, water and sewage networks, witnesses told WAFA.
Elsewhere, six Palestinians, including a 4 year-old child were wounded Wednesday when a booby-trap and a mysterious body blasted in two separate incidents in Zeif and Deir al-Asal villages south of Hebron City, local and medical sources said.
Palestinian sources said the devices were left by Israeli soldiers. The wounded suffered from burns all over their bodies as a result of the blast.
On the political front, President Yasser Arafat received late Tuesday a letter from his French counterpart, Jacques Chirac.
Arafat said that the letter, which was carried by French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier, was "very important for protecting the peace process." In a joint press conference with Barnier at his HQ in Ramallah, Arafat said "we are proud of the content of the letter. We will cooperate together for implementing its content".
Arafat noted the Palestinians will continue efforts supporting peace. (Albawaba.com)
