Mohammed Nazzal, member of Hamas Movement’s delegation to the Cairo dialogue for Palestinian factions, Tuesday said that a truce with the “Zionist enemy” was not the topmost priority on the agenda.
He affirmed, few hours before the inaugural session of the dialogue, that many parties were insisting on tackling truce as the highest priority on the agenda but his Movement was adamant on according greater importance to the issue of arranging the Palestinian home from within.
Nazzal said that Hamas might accept to forge a truce if the all-out Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people came to a complete halt and all prisoners were released.
Asked on the PA and Egypt’s position that was pushing for a one year truce, the Hamas political bureau member said that it was not possible for his Movement to accept a long truce.
He underlined that Hamas agreed with PA chief Mahmoud Abbas on calming down and not a truce. Nazzal told an Islam online-sponsored seminar that Hamas would also like to discuss uniting Palestinian lines during that dialogue.
He reiterated Hamas’ readiness to join the PLO after restructuring it and denied contradiction in his Movement’s stands. He explained that indulging in political work did not mean giving up military action. He emphasized that Hamas would not turn into a political party.
Nazzal said that dialogue between Hamas and each of the EU and the USA did not stop.
