A Palestinian on Monday blew himself up near the West Bank city of Qalqilia, when Israeli security forces approached him. The Palestinian was killed and, according to Israeli sources, no other injuries were reported.

The Israeli online newspaper, Ynet said the bomber, identified as Sabih Abu Saud, 17, from Nablus, was a member of Fatah's Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.

Earlier, Israeli security forces went on high alert, fearing a Palestinian suicide bombing attack in one of the major cities.

Police set up checkpoints at the entrances to several cities, blocking all the entrances to Kafr Qasem, and setting up roadblocks near other Israeli town in the region.

In the Jerusalem area, Israeli security forces beefed up their presence at the entrances to Jerusalem from the Palestinian territories Monday morning, Israel Radio reported. Security forces were on high alert due to threats of Palestinian attacks.

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation troops were searching for Palestinian activists in the West Bank city of Tulkarem before dawn Monday, Israel Radio added.

An Israeli soldier was shot and lightly injured Sunday evening during a routine partol near the West Bank village of Shufa, south of Tulkarem.

In the Gaza Strip, Israeli occupation forces shot and wounded a Palestinian civilian in the city of Khan Younis, Palestinian medical source said Monday.
