Pakistan will supply 0.1 million tons of rice and 0.15 million tons of wheat to Iraq this year under the 9th phase of "oil-for-food program," official sources were quoted by Dawn.
According to the internet edition of Dawn, the deal was agreed at the three-day meeting of the Pak-Iraq Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC), which concluded here on Thursday.
The Iraqi delegation was led by minister for housing and construction, Ma'an Sarsam, while Abdul Razak Dawood, minister for commerce, industries and production, headed the Pakistani side.
Citing last year’s figure, Pakistan supplied 40,000 tons of rice after a break of five years as Iraq had blacklisted Pakistani suppliers from rice trade due to their defaults.
"Rice export of Pakistan to Iraq has increased during the last couple of years. Pakistan offered to supply wheat and more rice to Iraq," said an official statement.
It said the JMC session reviewed the implementation status of the decisions taken during the 7th JMC session held in Baghdad in February last and agreed to proceed further with cooperation in various areas of mutual interest.
