Ephraim Halevi, the outgoing head of the Israeli Intelligence Service, Mossad, was appointed as chairman of the National Security Council, Israel Radio reported.
Halevi will be replacing Major-General (res.) Uzi Dayan, who is apparently due to resign.
Several names have been touted as possible candidates for the position vacated by Halevi. They include former chief of the Israeli army Intelligence Major-General (res.) Amos Malka and Dayan, both of whom had been in the running for chief of General Staff prior to the appointment of Lt.-Gen. Moshe Ya'alon.
Another possible candidate from outside the service is Major-General Amos Gilad, currently serving as coordinator of activities in the territories. (Albawaba.com)
