Just one woman has presented her candidacy for Qatar's second ever elections this March, after all six female candidates were defeated in landmark polls in the Gulf state in 1999.

In all, 92 candidates placed their names forward to stand for the 29 seats on the emirate's nationwide municipal council, Qatar's first and so far only elected body, the head of the electoral press center, Colonel Rashid Shahin al-Atiq, told reporters, according to AFP.

The final list of candidates will be published on January 27 after the authorities have checked their candidacies are in conformity with electoral law. (Albawaba.com)
